In Italy, the Council Presidency is in charge of coordinating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. While the SDGs are integrated in the Public Budget and a strategy exists, this cannot be considered a real SDG implementation plan as it lacks clear commitment by the diverse Ministries and linkages with other plans. The Agenda is available in Italian.
The Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS – Alleanza Italiana per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile) represents civil society organisations (CSO) along with universities and companies. Other networks, such as GCAP Italy are also working on the SDGs and are trying to create linkages. Regular meetings are conducted and there are regular policy dialogues with the government.
The Italian government was open to NGO input on SDG implementation. ASviS is well positioned in the political dialogue and part of the official delegation to the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). Future consultations will depend on the commitment of the new government.
CSO networks are following the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and ASviS has produced independent monitoring reports, representing the broader CSO partnership. A new campaigning and advocacy forum has been launched on inequalities and other campaigns on specific issues of the Agenda are developed by different CSOs.
