FOND – the Romanian NGDO Platform

Background

FOND -the Romanian NGDO Platform was created in 2006 and formally registered in 2007 with a focus on development cooperation. Since the adoption of the SDGs in 2015, the platform has included the 2030 Agenda in the context of development cooperation. FOND is ensuring the coordination of its members NGOs (and collaborates with other interested NGOs) on SDGs at the national level (monitoring the implementation and reporting on the SDGs). Currently, there is no national NGO/CSO coalition specifically focused on the SDGs.

Functioning

General Assembly (main governing body), Board (elected every three years), Executive team and Working Groups. The General Assembly meets once a year. Several other meetings (events, working group meetings, etc.) are organized throughout the year. Among FOND’s working groups there is a group on global/development education, which has as its main thematic priority the SDGs.

Additional Information

FOND Romania was involved in organising the International Conference on ‘Agenda 2030: Partnerships for Sustainable Development’. It facilitated the Civil Society Forum Session. The main purpose was to bring into the spotlight the role of CSOs in implementing and monitoring the 2030 Agenda at both national and European level, by emphasising the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships (reflected in the SDG no. 17). FOND also participated in the VNR process in 2018. In the new National Strategy on Sustainable Development*, launched in December 2018, CSOs will be included in the implementation process through the establishment of the Coalition for Sustainable Development, which will encompass different actors, such as young people, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, local authorities, unions, employers’ associations, research, development and innovation institutions, the academic community, mass media, the religious denominations, farmers, the elderly and families. FOND, together with its members, will try to get involved in this process as much as possible.
