SUMMARY:Launch SDGs4MEPs and SDG Watch Europe AGM
DESCRIPTION:19 February 2020 08.15 – 09.45 \nEuropean Parliament- Room A3H-1\, Brussels  \nHosted by MEP Udo Bullmann  \nWe are happy to invite you to the launch of “MEPs for SDGs”\, a new initiative by SDG Watch Europe that aims at gathering Parliamentarians caring for people and planet to work together for the ambitious and integrated SDG implementation.  \nAs part of the initiative\, we ask MEPs to commit to become sustainability heroes and to use their political influence to support the 12 demands described in the Manifesto for A Sustainable Europe for Its Citizens. Participating MEPs are invited to communicate about their commitment while SDG Watch Europe will give visibility to the participants. We invite you to carefully read the MEPs for SDGs chapter which details the commitments we expect from MEPs joining this circle.  \nWe will kick off the launch with a debate about ”How to make sure that the European Green Deal becomes a driver of Sustainable Development. A renewed role for the European Parliament ?“ MEPS and CSOs representatives from different sectors will contribute to the following questions:  \n\nHow can the European Green Deal\, declared central piece of the new European Commission\, deliver on all SDGs and how can we ensure that this Commission takes a holistic approach to Sustainable Development? \nIn this new political set up\, how can the European Parliament play a stronger role in holding the Commission account for the ambitious implementation of the SDGs? \nWhat are MEPs planning to do in order for the EP to address interlinkages between the different SDGs and their targets and to make sure that all Committees play their part in realising the Goals? \nHow can MEPs be enabled to better engage with citizens and with civil society on SDG monitoring and implementation?\n\nThe event will take place in room A3H-1.
