DESCRIPTION:By SDG Watch Europe \n16 June 2020 – 10 am to 11.30 am CET \nOnline (information on how to connect will be sent a few days prior to the event) \nAs part of SDG Watch Europe’s ‘MEPs for SDGs’ initiative – which aims to bring \nParliamentarians that care for people and the planet to work together for an ambitious and \nintegrated implementation of the SDGs – we invite you to an online discussion on the role of the European Parliament in the reform of the European Semester and how to push for an \noverarching strategy. \nThe debate between MEPs and CSO representatives from different sectors will contribute \nto answering the following questions: \n\n How can the reform of the European Semester\, declared a central piece of the new\n\nEuropean Commission\, deliver on all SDGs and how can we ensure that this Commission \ntakes a holistic approach to Sustainable Development? \n\n In this new political framework\, how can the European Parliament play a stronger role in\n\nholding the European Commission accountable for the ambitious implementation of \nthe SDGs? \n\n What are MEPs planning to do in order for the EP and the EC to address the necessity\n\nof a new strategy for Europe in line with the goals and targets of Agenda 2030? \n\n How can MEPs be enabled to better engage with citizens and civil society on SDG\n\nmonitoring and implementation and take part in the European Semester Process? \nWith the participation of: \n\n MEP Aurore Lalucq\n MEP Petros Kokkalis\n MEP Pernille Weiss\n MEP Billy Kelleher (tbc)\n MEP Ville Niinistö (tbc)\n\nRegister here before June 12 COB
