SUMMARY:‘Pushed to the Wastelands: Environmental racism against Roma communities in Central and Eastern Europe’ report launch
DESCRIPTION:Many Roma communities of Central and Eastern Europe experience systematic environmental racism as one aspect of their exclusion from the mainstream population. It pushes them out into marginal and polluted lands and neighbourhoods\, and deprives them of access to basic environmental services and public utilities. This is the conclusion of ‘Pushed to the Wastelands: Environmental racism against Roma communities in Central and Eastern Europe’\, a forthcoming landmark report\, which is due out on 8 April 2020. \nThe report is a result of a joint collaboration of the European Environmental Bureau\, European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) network\, the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) and the Environmental Justice Atlas. \nIn light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that have accompanied it\, we are inviting you to join our report launch remotely via videoconference. Please join us on 8 April\, 10am-12pm. \nIn a first session (45 min)\, we will briefly share the main finding of the report with interventions from the researchers and present the main recommendations for the EU’s post-2020 Roma policy framework. \nThe presentation of the report will be followed by parallel workshop sessions (60 min) focusing on concrete next steps and a summary. \nIf you would like to participate please register here by 2 April the latest. \nWe will send out links to join the meeting to all registered participants.
